Аннотация:
The article considers the problems of formation of linguistic and communicative
competence of foreign non-philological students who receive a professional education in high
institutions of Ukraine. The essence, functions and role of language and speech in communication
processes have been explored: There is outlined the importance of such language functions as social,
cognitive and reflection function for communication, acquisition and storage of knowledge in the
general code for society; the importance of extralinguistic factors for the implementation of speech
activity is indicated.
The article highlights the necessary communicative competencies for students of Ukrainian
language as a foreign language, considers the formation of linguistic and cultural competence,
which involves the possession of all types of speech activity in this socio-cultural space. There are
noted the necessity of development of speech, discursive and sociolinguistic competences for
realization of substantiated verbal and nonverbal behavior in typical situations of communication of
foreign communicants.
Attention was given to the formation of knowledge, skills and abilities of correct use of
appropriate language material; the structural and content component of textbooks in Ukrainian as a
foreign language, in particular, teaching materials on speech practice for foreign students of the
main stage of study of Odessa National Polytechnic University, which aims to further form students
of the main stage of sociocultural competence. The nomenclature of conditional speech and speech
tasks aimed at activating communication skills on selected topics in a specific area of
communication; the principles of formation of textual content of the manual on speech practice are
considered.
